Frequently asked questions
Can my child bring a favorite toy or snack to class?
These items can become a distraction. It is best to leave them at home or in the car. If they are coming to Drumming Up the Fun directly from Hilton Elementary, they may sit in the lobby area of the educational wing of HPC to eat their snack.
Can I bring my own drum to a workshop or drum circle
Personal drums are welcome. We do look for certain tonal qualities with each of our ensembles and we'll want to make sure that yours fits into the best category.
How should we dress?
Dress is casual. All classes involve a certain amount of movement, so keep that in mind. When attending a drumming workshop you should wear something in which you are comfortable sitting behind a drum.
Does taking private lessons require regular practice?
Absolutely! Any new skill requires repetition. Much of what we do as musicians is muscle memory. Therefore, the more times you do it, the easier it is for your muscles to remember. It doesn't require long sessions, but can be broken up into several short sessions throughout the day.
How will things be different during Covid-19 reopening?
We are doing everything possible to ensure your health and safety. All equipment is sanitized before and after each use and there will be no sharing of equipment at this time. In drum circles, families will be seated together and spaced 6 feet from other participants. According to the Governor's orders, masks will be worn when we are inside the building. Drum circle will be held outdoors whenever possible at this time. Hand sanitizer should be used before using any equipment. We will shorten our sessions to 45 minutes and limit participants to 12.
